Healing Northwest Indiana

About us

Methodist Hospital has been Healing Northwest Indiana for 100 years. For an entire century, our doctors, nurses, and staff have worked tirelessly to keep their neighbors well. And while we remember our past contributions to our community, Methodist Hospitals is looking to the future. We have invested more than $14 million in the last 10 years, and nearly $3 million in the last two years to ensure that we are on the leading edge of diagnostic imaging technologies. And while we continue to invest to better treat the injured and sick, we’re also taking the lead in meeting the overall health needs of the communities we serve. For example, Methodist is confronting food insecurity with our Nutrition Station and addressing sexual violence and exploitation at our new STAR Center. Methodist Hospitals doctors, nurses and staff are enthusiastically embracing these initiatives and are actively participating in efforts to improve hospital care that enable us to better serve Northwest Indiana as a truly independent health system. Recent initiatives include: • A new interventional radiology suite at our Southlake campus • New cardiac catheter labs at our Northlake and Southlake campuses • The addition of advanced PET-CT technology to the CareFirst Imaging Center • Strategic partnerships with UChicago Medicine in key services lines, such as neonatal intensive care • A new outpatient pharmacy at our Southlake campus • A partnership with IU Northwest to establish a family practice residency program Methodist Hospitals is improving quality, safety, employee engagement and patient experience while expanding into more Northwest Indiana communities and strengthening key service lines by attracting high quality providers and acquiring advanced technologies. Methodist Hospitals is fully committed to achieving our stated goal: To embark on our second century of service as a successful, independent healthcare system.

The 2024 Employee of the Year is Michael Williams, better known as Mike D. He is an Emergency Department Technician at our Northlake Campus. As a paramedic, Mike has more than 30 years of experience in emergency medicine: he retired from the Gary Fire Department and has been with Methodist for 14 years.   Mike is extremely organized and committed to learning and developing best practices and new ways working and improving – even after 30 plus years! And he knows what to do, and how and when to do it in times of crisis.   He knew what to do when he rushed a child who had been shot to the ED from the main hospital entrance. And he knew what to when he helped save the life of an infant who was brought to the ED not breathing. We want to thank Mike for his dedication and willingness to go above and beyond to protect the lives of our patients.   Congratulations Mike D!

The 2024 Methodist Hospitals Leader of the Year is Michelle Moniak.  One of the hallmarks of a great leader is that they inspire respect, loyalty and excellence in the people who work with and for them. This is certainly true of Michelle. Michelle has been nominated for this award multiple times, and this year she was nominated by no less than five of the people who work with and for her! Here are a few of the things that they said about her:   “As a leader, Michelle embodies the value of respect. She earns the respect of everyone she interacts with.  She treats everyone with kindness and has the ability to foster an environment that promotes respect and teamwork.”   “Michelle absolutely demonstrates the I-Care Values, the Methodist Mission and Vision and the Model of Care and Conduct. She is a fantastic role model and I look up to her.”   “She has created an outstanding department with little to no turnover. I have never worked for a better manager or director than Michelle Moniak! The best quality Michelle has is her communication skills. She is always up front and keeps everyone in the loop as to what is going on.”   “She has many accomplishments: she has built the Orthopedic and Spine Center into an award-winning program serving all of Northwest Indiana. She created and championed a Medical Assistant internship program as a gateway for entry into the healthcare field. She was instrumental in creating the Methodist Physician Group Float Pool, and she has worked closely with HR to implement a referral and sign on bonus program to help Methodist compete for staff in a competitive labor market.”   And one more: “Michelle continually shows us the importance of accountability, adaptability, good communication, compassion, self-awareness and the flexibility to change in a positive way, She encourages us to be strong yet gentle in heart.”   Congratulations Michelle!
