About us

Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO), with headquarters in Merrillville, Indiana, has proudly served the energy needs of northern Indiana for more than 100 years. As Indiana’s largest natural gas distribution company, and the second largest electric distribution company, the NIPSCO serves approximately 810,000 natural gas and 460,000 electric customers across 32 counties. NIPSCO is one of NiSource’s (NYSE: NI) seven regulated utility companies. NiSource is one of the largest fully-regulated utility companies in the United States, serving approximately 3.5 million natural gas customers and 500,000 electric customers across seven states through its local Columbia Gas and NIPSCO brands.

    Today, NIPSCO employees volunteered at Shirley Heinze Land Trust in Valparaiso removing invasive species to support the growth of native trees. This initiative was led by our Forestry Department and is part of our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship. NIPSCO has been recognized as a Tree Line USA utility by the Arbor Day Foundation and we’re dedicated to making a difference.     NIPSCO proudly sponsored the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne's Day of Service event in honor of Children's Mental Health Awareness Month on May 9. We had the privilege of teaching 250 club kids the importance of planting trees in the right places and emphasizing the safety of calling 811 before digging. We are committed to a sustainable future and look forward to empowering and educating future generations.

    Today was an action-packed day at our Michigan City Generating Station. Firefighters from the Michigan City Fire Department engaged in two specialized safety drills. Both scenarios included high-altitude rescue techniques using ropes and specialized equipment. Thank you, Michigan City Fire Department for your commitment to our community, safety and emergency preparedness.

    NIPSCO and the NiSource Charitable Foundation proudly sponsored the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana's Soiree, an event dedicated to ending world hunger. All proceeds from the event went towards hunger relief efforts in Lake and Porter counties. So far, more than $70,000 has been donated to support the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana's mission. The theme was "Branching into New Waters" and highlighted the Trust's efforts in supporting waterways and water quality across northwest Indiana.     Retired NIPSCO and NiSource leader Violet Sistovaris, was honored yesterday with induction into the Northwest Indiana Business & Industry Hall of Fame Class of 2024 by IN Business Magazine. Her role in forging NIPSCO’s industry-leading transition from coal-fired electric generation to lower-cost, sustainable and reliable resources including wind and solar were recognized, as well as her long-standing commitment to giving back to customers, communities and her employees throughout Northwest Indiana. In her acceptance remarks, she shared her outlook that the collective future of Northwest Indiana is bright as it is home to many great organizations and people. She noted the tremendous growth she’s seen by everyone coming together for common goals and optimizing The Region’s quality of life. And shared her belief that with care and collaboration, the best is yet to come for Northwest Indiana. Congratulations, Violet!
