Colorado Governor Jared Polis recently signed the “Colorado Artificial Intelligence Act” into law, a groundbreaking measure designed to regulate the private-sector use of AI systems and the risk of algorithmic discrimination from the use of AI systems. The law makes Colorado the first U.S. state to enact comprehensive legislation regulating the use and development of AI systems. Colorado’s AI Act contains different requirements and rules depending on whether an entity is a developer or a deployer, with most employers falling into the deployer category. Jenn Betts, Danielle Ochs, and Mike Bell explores aspects of the law that are most pertinent to deployers and employers using AI as part of their people practices: https://bit.ly/3wNnj9N #artificialintelligence #AI #employmentlaw #coloradolaw

Thank you Sumun L. Pendakur, Ed.D. for leading Ogletree Deakins in such an informative and powerful discussion.

Many thanks to Ogletree Deakins for having me out today, as their AANHPI Heritage Month speaker! I loved that they wanted to go beyond the boundary of what's traditionally focused on for Heritage Month to leverage the moment in order to build meaningful allyship skills across communities. 34 of their global law offices tuned in for "watch parties" and we went on the journey of socially constructed identity, identifying privilege, redistributing power as the core facet of allyship, naming and strategizing around concrete allyship actions (interpersonally and structurally) - all sandwiched in between a little family story and locating the sociopolitical struggle of insider/outsider status. As we witness the multipronged attacks on organizational diversity and equity progress, I am heartened to witness how colleagues like Lia Dorsey, Amanda Quan, Michele Lee, MA, Tae Phillips, and Pearl Brady are continuing to center and advance inclusion and equity - internally, with clients, and more - as a core facet and value of the work of their firm. Happy AANHPI Heritage Month - and here's to more boundary breaking, in all ways. #heritagemonth #speaker

This year’s Well-Being Week In Law was another hit at Ogletree Deakins! Team members across the firm participated in initiatives throughout the week to promote well-being and take meaningful breaks from their busy days. Local offices hosted events including goat yoga, healthy breakfast bars, and relaxing craft activities. We hope that WWIL served as a time to relax, recharge, and learn new ways to practice well-being that can be used year-round. #ODProud #WWIL #wellbeingatwork

Karen Tynan and Robert Rodriguez, Sacramento shareholders and co-chairs of the firm's recently launched Workplace Violence Prevention Practice Group, sat down with Law360's Andrea Keckley to discuss the new group. "I think it's an issue that's on lawmakers' minds, it's an issue that's on workplaces' minds, so I think it's going to be a domino effect," said Robert. Legislation goes into effect at the start of July that will require California employers to have a comprehensive workplace violence plan laid out. Similar legislation focused on retail workers is under consideration in New York. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4bDQLO6 #employmentlaw #workplaceviolenceprevention
